Parabola.




Materials needed:

1)   Drawing board with paper attached.

2)  T square.

3)  2 tacks.

4)  String or wire.   It should have as little stretch as possible.  

5)  A pencil.


Place one tack at the focus of the parabola and the other on the end of the T square long bar

Then place the T Square so it rides on the bottom of the drawing board and moves left to right.  

Tie the string to the T-square tack and tie the other end to the tack in the paper.  

Place the T-square near the paper tack and hold a pencil on the vertical portion of the T-square.  

Slide the T-square to the right and allow the pencil to move along the edge of the T-square.  

The resulting curve will be a parabola
